Dr. Richard Sobel, Senior Research Associate in the Program in Psychiatry and the Law at Harvard Medical School, and a Senior Research Fellow and Policy Director at the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research
Discusses the Secure Flight Program -which requires for flights within the United States for the passenger, in order to make a reservation, to provide his or her full name, birthdate and gender. The justification is stated that this information must be checked against Government watchlists which burden some with advanced searches and prohibits others from flying at all.
This program raises the question of whether the government should be able to tell innocent people whether or not they can travel. It also raises the issue of whether or not we should need the government's permission in order to travel. Privacy and the Right to Travel are part of the numerated and unenumerated rights in our Constitution.
